Parents and kids are awesome, as well as the staff. Pre-school and afternoon teachers were all great people to work with.
Management is nice, but often uncoordinated. Work hours varied wildly. On full days (school holidays or closings) staff is expected to work up to 11 hours without any time for a lunch break, which is required by law. Thankfully only happens about 7 times during the school year.
Awesome co-workers, parents, and children
Lack of communication between staff and management
I took care of over 70 kids at the cite that i was at.
i learned how to help children with homework and help them solve their everyday problems,
management was not supportive to their staff.
Hardest part was trying to get help with one of the cocworker .
i enjoyed taking with children and helping them do homework and doing fun art projects with them
provided housing and food. was a fun enviornment to work in and variety daily tasks and activities. Supports working in a creative enviornment. Pay and compensation were not enough to support a living wage
The Middletown NY YMCA is possibly the most unorganized mess I have seen in 25 years of experience in the teaching field. COO and building manager are horrendous. To many dishonest things going on and nobody to report to. They also don't pay on a fair scale. if you are family you make more...never saw more family working together in a place! too weird for me.
I love working with children, and as a Pre K teacher I get to be the first experience the child has in a school environment, which can be sometimes stressful because you want to make sure their experience leads them to want to come to school for year to follow.
Good job for someone wanting to get their start in a social work/psychology/child development field of work. The pay isn't very high, but comes with a free gym membership and benefits eligible at 30 hours per week.
I worked in the preschool as a three year old teacher. I loved the resources they had on hand to use with and for the kids. The willingness to get the supplies you needed for an activity was great. Not to mention, every one was respectful and very kind.
Lots of resources, good enviroment, sthe kids
preschool has to work around the gym members and activities
Mgmt is helpful to assist staff at workplace when they face difficulties.
Workplace culture is co-operative. Hardest part of job is sometimes difficult students and too many school activities instead of more focus on exam.
The job itself is great. A typical day at work is clocking in, going to the nap room for two hours and stare at the ceiling, then wake up, bathroom breaks for the kids, snack, gym/outside time, activity time, and then back outside until parents arrive.
In my experience, I have never worked anywhere so unprofessional in my life. Payroll checks have been no good. Administration shift mid year. Cheating scandals. Teachers not teaching kids. No dress code. Just an overall awful environment
