All of those great things you've heard about working at the post office are all lies. You don't get benefits until years of working there. Your respect is determined by the position you apply for. I was a mail handler and to them that's the lowest position, meaning you won't get respect. You'll be doing most of the work and being paid less. They overwork you just because they know they can get away with it. You'll be doing yours and a few other people's work also so they can relax. Management is trash. There are a bunch of condescending people here who take advantage of their positions. They jump at any chance to make your work experience more difficult. We were always understaffed because everyone was quitting. Not because of hard work, just horrible management and unfair treatment. You can't balance private life and this job. This job is your life, they make it that way. They hire mail handlers so when the regulars want to take lots of time off, we are the ones forced to work day after day with only sometimes one day off within two weeks. They lie and say that it only takes up to a year to become a regular but it can take years for mail handlers and since we're their last priority that'll never happen.
