12 hours a day 7 days a week, no schedule, no time to plan anything outside of work, eventually drove me nuts. I went into the job very excited to carry mail and then beat the joy out of me
No time to eat lunch or use bathroom working 7 days a week 12 hours a day
Don't offer water in hot conditions, but expect you to work overtime daily, don't offer hand warmers, or anything else needed to keep warm, don't want you to take your time off, constantly want you to work overtime, and don't care about you getting bit by dog, slip and falls, or anything else. Just delivery all mail and packages
Being a city carrier assistant sucks. It's not for everybody and your job experience will vary from office to office Variables include management, amount of employees (understaffed means you work up to 56+ hours a week and 10+ a day
Good pay and hours, you have good days sometimes
Dealing with weather, lazy regulars, supervisors that give you unrealistic expectations, not having a life
Any delivery service is stressful. You will get a ton of mail and packages and expect to be done in 8 hours when it’s more. They say they will work with you if you have school or appointments but most likely won’t. Over worked and tired . Some people like it.
There is no protection for employees. This is a very high risk/ dangerous job. The USPS is failing in general and they are losing business. In return they pretty much have blamed the employees and treat them as such. This job will take its toll on you mentally, physically, and emotionally.
It's a job. It paid for yearly vacations and the down payment of my house. Met great people. But be prepared to work, especially as a newly hired cca. There is no work life balance. The demands are usually impossible. My advice is to know your rights, read your contract, read your handbook, and pick your battles. Take your breaks, and take care of your feet with good footwear. I hurt my back and decided to seperate, but it is a decent career if you're looking for something permanent.
Good money for hs education, benefits
Pain from physicality of the job, poor management sometimes, no work life balance
Fast paced job. Most of it it time sensitive. Accuracy is extremely important. Safety is highly critical. The hiring process is long. Your work days can be long past dark depending on your assignment
The pay, longevity once you are a regular
Long hiring process
The Post office is a great place to work. Given the right supervisor is in control. A typical day is being in the office for about a hour. Going out into the field for seven hours(If no overtime is given). There really is no hard part carrying mail after being properly trained to do the job. Dress for the weather of the different seasons. Be prepared to work rain, sleet, hail or snow!
Minimum supervision if your occupation is a letter carrier. Salary and Benefits ample and if you enjoy the outdoors this is the career for you.
Depending on the elements brewing outside each day can differ, mail volume also plays a part in your typical day. As any new hire, it will be challenging at first for the next several years. Stay dedicated, take each day as a learning experience, keep a positive attitude and it'll be second nature in no time!
Minimum supervision, Work at one's own pace, great salary
Elements can be challenging (extreme heat, cold, rain, dogs)
Overall, I enjoyed working at the post office. I worked as a carrier. The job is physically demanding and management has very little tolerance for the injured, even if it's caused by the job. Weather can be your friend or a great enemy. If you like being outdoors, its awesome. Michigan winters being the exception. USPS expects you to work with same agility in winter on ice as you do in the summer. so beware.
Benefits, job security
work load can be overwhelmingly physically taxing
The United States Postal Service is a great place to work for. They give the customers great service with the delivery of the mail. Great prices on their packages. The clerk provide quality service and on the time line service I love this company.
