Daily lifting and sorting of packages and letters while also having to work with large post-cons to give to truck drivers. Worked with supervisors and mailmen throughout the day. Fast-paced environment where you will always stay on your feet. Can get stressful if you're the only mail handler in that day and have to send everything out in time especially around the holidays. Enjoyed all the friends and colleagues that were made.
if you are ready to absolutely drain your mental health for this place, go for it but otherwise. this place is physically/mentally exhausting. MHAs / Mail Handler Assistants, are over worked and sometimes it really just isn’t worth it. They take advantage of everyone and there are rules or regulations constantly being broken or not followed. Safety protocols are not followed half the time.
At this job they'll teach you how to perform the tasks necessary before you go on your own, but when your off on your own and you ask the supervisors/managers for pointers on the area your going to be working in for the day they only say, "Follow the mail." They don't know enough to even help you and then you gotta try and ask around for someone who knows what you might run into. Then there's no set schedule it's on call til you can find the schedule that the supervisors wont tell you about and even then they call you your day off to ask you to come in, the only time you can get something solid of a schedule is when you make regular which can take 1 to maybe 3 years. When you start to get better at the job you can't go fast because then they start to hand you more and more work and you can't refuse because then they get on you for that saying your refusing work.
Show up at work when you are scheduled to. Make sure you are prepared to do your job not just show up and go hide someplace. It is an eight hour shift with two breaks and a lunch break. Try not to call out more twice in a six month time. Show good work ethics.
Lack of direction from supervisor, regulars employees tend to slack off leave all work to MHA’s. regularly mandated to provide support to other area per bad management team. have to start in overnights
Good money for simple job
overnights, bad management.
Very stressful job. The workplace is very disorganized. The hardest part of the job is not being able to get a day off just to rest. sometimes it will go 20 days without 1 single day off. Only good thing about the job is the great benefits that you earn with time in.
I worked as a PSE for 2 Christmas seasons. The job was very hard and the regular employees were very lazy and they left us do do all of the work on our own all the time. The pay is more than the average but I don't think the amount of work is worth it. Everybody does as they like and if the supervisor speaks to them about their lack of effort then they get the union involved.
Working here sucked honestly. Because they have a union everyone did whatever they wanted and never got in trouble. People would come in drunk with no repercussions. Management was dreadful. The managers were never where they were supposed to be they would just disappear. You could be looking for a manager for a half hour and still wouldn't find one. Horrible place to work.
As a PTF u could be limited to 20 hours of work weekly bc of Union, while regular employees get to work overtime in the same week. Union restricts usps from starting experienced new hires at higher level pay. Many employees do not get two consecutive days off from work per week. Non scheduled work days could be Sunday and Thursday. New employees are not properly informed that they are Not Required to join the union.
Medical, dental benefits. No heavy work.
1.No two consecutive days off from work. 2. Unionized. .
Working at the post office is fast pace job but very rewarding job. You work with a lot of fun and interesting people. People that are quick to lend a helping hand. After working for only a short time you learn about your environment and the different positions fast. Managers are down to earth and patient when you don't understand something. My favorite part of the job was the lunch room. With everything you could need to have a full healthy meal from one og the cooks. They also had an outside area to eat
Working at USPS factory in Springfield MA. Was a great experience the pay was fantastic a lot of the task they have you do is simply and easy some days it’s slow paced you’re on your feet a lot of the time and it can be a pain or it can be extremely fast paced and you’re jump from one side of the factory to the next
Easy simple task multiple breaks (manly 3 but on slow days 5-6) due slow mail
supervisor won’t be helpful or explain certain things well
