Worked for USPS for 9 years and never became career employee, never got any benefits, retirement, seniority or right to bid vacation. Averaged 50 hours /week, very little ability to get a day off if asked,. Don't confuse the old post office with the new poorly run PO. Yes you do work holidays and Sundays sometimes, no you do not get Federal employee benefits and the pay is not that good! I speed-walked anyway from 5 to 15 miles a day six days a week. So do no consider this job unless you are starting out with good, knees, hips and feet. Inevitable, I and (30,000 other TE's) were rewarded for all our hard work(missing only 4 days in nine years) by the USPS eliminating the job title and offering us another job. The new job was exactly the same, non-career, no benefits, no guarantees but 30% less money. The people I worked with were awesome, middle management was ok, but upper management(not in delivery offices) had no business sense and logic, they are making all the wrong decisions for the sake of getting back to black asap. They will be the fall of the PO.
employee respect and compensation.
