Great pay but the culture is terrible. There is no organization between the post offices. I worked seasonally here and they bounce you around post offices sometimes you'll arrive to your assigned post office just to be told to go to another station.
As a new CCA I report to work on time, and try to deliver mail in the time limits given to me. Management is not supportive and can be harsh at times. It is really hard to meet time limits when you are bounced around from route to route and try to follow the mail. If it was sorted correctly and all homes had addresses and mail boxes on their houses it may be easier. Traffic is another issue, I get stuck in road construction and crossing busy streets with mail and packages can be very dangerous.I really like delivering the mail but I feel that my life is in danger at times due to the scary neighborhoods and delivering mail/packages in the dark. Management really needs to encourage new CCA hire instead of making an employee feel like they are worthless.
long hours, no breaks, working past dark, scary neighborhoods, unreasonable time limits
if they could they'd work you til death, they DO NOT CARE about you're home life, getting reprimanded now for not being able to work on my days off, they can send put you on leave status with no pay if you anger management too much, management has no rules to work within, its ALWAYS short staffed and they'd rather work the heck out of their current employees than hire more
This job is not for you if you have children and no support system. They have last minute mandatory hours. As a PSE you have no choice but to stay. They don’t care about your life outside of work. It could take up 5 years for you to become regular. As a PSE you have no benefits.
The job is very unpredictable. You dont get to participate in TSP (401K) until you make regular so until then it's just free time. It doesnt count towards your retirement. Management will give more work than time allows and expect you to get it done some how. Overall this job should be seen as a stepping stone not a career
A lot of work and long hot hours. Your a temp until you make regular. It could take years to make regular. It all depend on how fast people retire and the regulars are in no hurry to retire. They treat you like a nobody and you do all the bad jobs that the regulars don't want to do. You will more than likely work the bad hours, weekends and all the holidays. You get no benefits until you make regular.
Lots of hours, no benifits, work all weekends and holidays.
Working for the post office was a good experience it taught me how to drive, not fear dogs and walk long distances I feel all person learning how to drive should take a driving corse with the USPS
dog bites, long hours.
Work you like slaves, do not care about anyone. Mail is God. Was told by Supervisors that the post office does not care about your family situation. If your not in the hospital then in makes no difference to the who is. Terrible management. Big turnover.
The branch operations team undergo quite a bit of scrutiny from both upper management, the hourly staff, and the multiple unions. Is there no real accountability held towards management and their performance. I went into multiple branches to help improve performance, turned it around, and once I left the old manager would just generally run it back into the ground.
This is a great job for someone who doesn't mind spending very little time with family. Lots of work to go around. The holiday season is brutal but again the pay is really good.
Cannot take lunches, expect perfection right out of training.
The work environment is incredibly toxic. Management has very little concern over the personal well being of the employees. City Carrier Assistants are chronically overworked. I average around 5 hours of sleep a night, with 70 hour work weeks, and no guaranteed days off. The pay an benefits are nice, but it is not worth the tax on one's physical and mental health.
Pay and benefits
Toxic work culture, no days off, incredibly stressful
This job is for anyone that will be able to handle diverse work conditions. The most enjoyable part of the job is the customers and being able to be out of the office. I've learned that you can do whatever you put your mind to do. Stay positive and prayed up.
They don't care about you personal life. They only want for you to do for them and nothing else. They require you to work around them and do not care for any emergency situation, depending on you manager but they are all nearly the same.
Money, Easy Job
