A somewhat relaxed work environment, but not a smoothly functioning organization. Many of Home Depot's problems originate at the corporate level.
A lack of support exists for the sales associates, particularly in getting items down from overhead stock for customers. Consistently too few personnel on duty to cover all departments and all tasks.
Poor training of assistant managers and department heads, plus inadequate training is all areas, but particularly the specialty sales areas. Sales associates have to learn policies and procedures on their own - there are no written procedures on anything (except safety and hazardous materials handling).
Pay is very low and promotional possibilities and future pay increases for part-time employees is virtually nonexistent.
