Production & Retail Team Lead (Volt alkalmazott) – Sterling, VA – 2017, május 1.
I loved working for GW but regionals are not to great they do not do thorough investigations on certain things. I learned great communication skills and patience working there. I love how they are different cultures there.
Programs and Services (Jelenlegi alkalmazott) – Menasha, WI – 2018, március 6.
Amazing culture - Goodwill NCW really lives its values and mission each day (example: joyful and zany!). When I first started working, the Senior Vice President of Programs and Services gave me the following advice: do good work and have good fun. This accurately captures my time so far with Goodwill. The organization is lead by a very innovative leadership team that is wiling to try new things in order to best serve our communities.
Friendly team members, some of the best leadership that I've experienced professionally, able to be creative, somewhat flexible schedule, making a difference in the community, affordable benefits, very transparent leadership and vision, feel supported on all levels (leadership, management, and team members)
raises were unable to be given out in the recent past (2-3 years)
Heavy Machine Operator (Volt alkalmazott) – Youngstown, OH – 2018, március 6.
Goodwill industries was a great job for me, lots of experience and good people. UNDER THE NEW MANAGEMENT, I would consider going back there... I was highly sought out by other employees, to help with their work also
Stocker (Volt alkalmazott) – Madison Heights, VA – 2018, március 6.
learned about the donation specification that were received throughout the day, sorted through clothes, toys, shoes, books to check for damages, hung clothes on racks on the floor, organized shelves items
Assistant Manager (Volt alkalmazott) – Holmes, PA – 2018, március 5.
A typical day at work would be to walk in, be bombarded with changes handed down by a corporate culture who is disconnected with their employees, customer base, and business. Goodwill is donated goods retail, not regular retail. You need to process through massive amounts of donated garbage to find the items that are decent enough to put on your sales floor. You are hounded by management to hit these unrealistic quotas assigned down from people who have never performed the jobs that regular employees have to do. This leads to bad morale among managers and employees because they do not have a static inventory. The inventory on any certain day could be 100% trash, while the next day it can be 100% perfectly priceable items. The employees are documented and disciplined on the days where they can't meet there quota because of lack of quality product. And this is only the tip of the iceberg.
What I learned at goodwill is that their mission to improve the quality of life for people does not extend to their employees. They do have some decent managers in the company that actually take care of the employees, but these managers are quickly identified and labeled as bad managers. I was part of a management team at a location in Delaware county Pennsylvania in 2014 and 2015, and we had the store running perfectly. Employees loved it. We loved it. Our customers loved it. And Corporate loved it. Our store was hitting new highs in sales at the end of 2014 and for the entirety of 2015. Corporate's solution was to break the team up and send them to different stores. I understand thattöbb... this is a common tactic in retail, but it failed in this case. The managers were given unrealistic workloads because of their reputation as "money makers" at the original store, the workload fell to the staff and many from the once thriving family oriented Goodwill staff began to quit, leave, or abandon their job. Except me. I stayed.
The workplace culture is simple. When those employees and managers quit, they weren't replaced. Goodwill decided to cut costs by instituting a hiring freeze. The effects were obvious. The donations were overflowing with no one to process them (separate garbage from priceable) and the few remaining good employees and managers were responsible for processing them. This meant that managers had to take their time from "managing" to do the jobs of production associates, which led to the downfall of many of the Goodwill's sales floor appearances. As a manager, you HAD to be in the backroom to process because if you weren't the store would fall apart. Money would not be made. Customers would leave and go to other stores because fresh product was not constantly flowing out onto the floor. Corporate, specifically the Vice President of Retail and his district managers, thought that we were Macy's. They are utterly clueless.
The hardest part of the job was watching all of the employees and co-workers that you trained, taught, and managed, quit because of the low pay combined with ridiculous amounts of work they had to do. Low pay was tolerable when we were fully staffed and everyone had their job to do. But became intolerable when corporate spit in our faces. I started at 12.50 as an Assistant Manager and capped out at $13.71 after 5 years because they removed pay raises, employee reviews, and merit raises.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the people. Your co-workers. Everyone has their stories of how they arrived at that miserable company.kevesebb
Assistant Manager (Jelenlegi alkalmazott) – Austin are – 2018, március 5.
A typical day at Goodwill is one filled with many moving parts. Goodwill is essentially run like an assembly line production business. Management was great and the workplace environment was remarkably positive. Hardest part of the job was time management. Getting everything done in a normal work day. Most enjoyable part of the job is being able to help support the company's mission.
CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE (Volt alkalmazott) – Everett, WA – 2018, március 5.
I love Goodwill; I shopped there before I even worked there but it really is a thrift store and corporate want these very high standards for every store that I think are unattainable. If you need a job because you need money, the possibility to advance, I'd say go for it! Being in lower management helped me get a different perspective on how being a manager at the store would have really worked. I love the diverse culture you get to work with and all the different personalities!
Benefits package, people you work with, advancement available
Store Manager (Jelenlegi alkalmazott) – Houston, TX – 2018, március 5.
This place should only be thought of if you have no other choices. They do take people with backgrounds. They are basically a second chance employer. They use that as a reason to pay very low. Advancement is not common and they refuse to give raises. There are employees who have been there for 10 plus years who make not even $9 an hour. They're pay is horrible.
Goodwill does some good in the community but as far as being a worker in the stores it is horrible. I could go on but all you have to do is go to Facebook and look up Greedwill. That's definitely who they are.
Programs & Services (Jelenlegi alkalmazott) – Menasha, WI – 2018, március 5.
Compared to several other employers Goodwill NCW has good intentions to provide a safe and enjoyable place to work. There are several team member promotions that take place throughout the year to promote health and wellness and team unity. It's not perfect but it is one of the best local places to work. I would recommend this place to work.
Leadership tries to be understanding and not punitive
Not a whole lot of advancment opportunities, haven't had a raise in three years.

Information Systems Technician (Jelenlegi alkalmazott) – Menasha, WI – 2018, március 5.
Our Goodwill organization in North Central Wisconsin is well run and staffed by the most enjoyable, caring people one could hope to work with. Everyone I work with is very professional but we know how to have fun at the same time. The environment is relaxed, but the mission, which is being spread throughout the organization and the community, is being fulfilled.
I enjoyed my time working there as part-time worker through a program to help youth gain work experience. My job was to work in retail assisting and helping other workers with their jobs and putting out sold products and taking in some donations.
We took trips to colleges with others from the program, We went to resturants and ate out for free and had a good time, We have went to conventions and met with motivational speakers.
A company that lives and breathes its mission and values
