Most days were busy and productive. Ability to build relationships internally and externally. Most employees were very willing to share their information regarding policies and experience.
High level of stress
It all depends on the department you work for. In 5 yrs i worked at BDC - i experienced many positives and many negatives. Originally procurement was under the Information Technology Silo since most procurement activities were for IT technology. Management at the time took their time and taught me how to manage and launch procurement initiatives. I was hired for the position of procurement and vendor management - my strength was managing partners and clients. I was part of the procurement and vendor management office and within the 2 years i was allocated to a special project team that worked on a complete re-hall of the PVM head offices. It was a great team with awesome individuals - real team players. I managed procurement processes for most technology that was being implemented along with architects and construction companies. Procurement eventually was moved under the finance team and new management came in place. With little regard to their employees and processes in place. New management provided little to know guidance and added stress and unpleasant environment.
renovated offices - open space
stressful - mea culpa's for management do not exist
There are so many wonderful things about working for the company. My favorite is probably the flexibility I have with my hours. I also love the company culture and enjoy working with everyone. A lot of employees love their jobs because it looks great on a resume and allows them to gain a lot of knowledge.
Montreal is the head office and that is where the opportunities are, in other areas the movement within the advisory services is very limited. People stay in roles forever without advancement.
The work atmosphere is great, fantastic benefits, good pay, nice people, good work/life balance in general. But if you get a bad manager: oops. BDC tries to look the other way, shuffle you elsewhere, or stick their head in the sand rather than deal with the problem, especially if the manager meets their target.
Benefits, good vacation, personal days off
Nice new offices, but oldschool mentality.
Depends on which team you work for, in general the Bank has a lot to offer and great people work there. The benefit are very good, salary does not always match the cost of life in Toronto. Great disparity of salary between consultants (overpaid) and full time staff (underpaid)
I loved the place and salary but the management was not good the are very racist they do not treat you according to your capacity of work or qualifications they are really racist but the company is good the HR teams are very cool since i was in IT i really dont know for other departments.
no car needed
Bad management teams
They only promote you if you have a French nane. Even if you have more experience and education they will always promote a French person. The new Business Center Manager in St Kaurent has never been an account manager but she's French so they gave her the job over an experienced account manager!
Productive, International Expansion department too small and stand alone to have maximum impact and reach
Open culture, collaborative, decentralized. Enjoyed meeting SMEs and helping grow their business with proven strategies and business model. How to work with other Crown corporations like EDC, global Affairs and Provincial counterparts. Requires more strategic thinking to set programs that maximize impact and reach and make Canadian SMEs the most competitive in the world.
Genuine interest to help SMEs
Better undertand SME needs and develop right programs to maximize impact and reach
Bons avantages sociaux et ... c'est tout .... Beaucoup de pression pour rien ... les gestionnaires sans expériences, mais carriéristes, les employés sont traités comme esclaves ...
BDC offers great opportunities and challenges. The mandate is one of the main reasons why I applied : help create and develop strong Canadian businesses through financing, advisory services and indirect financing, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. How can you not be engaged when you work for an organization with this mission? People are extremely competent and collaborative, BDC is a great place to work and grow.
The challenges, the opportunities, the recognition by the management
