Great company, slow promotions when entering at entry level positions

AWS is an awesome company to work for, my only issue is the process to get promoted and transfer to other departments. If you can enter the company at a high level position you're good to go! Otherwise, it's going to take a ton of work for you to get promoted internally because they would rather hire someone externally.

Great place to work

Working for AWS is great, very inclusive and diverse. Working in a data centre you meet lots of interesting people and new skills. Some of the work can be a little repetitive but career progression opportunities are excellent.

Job growth, but have to slog through politics

AWS has great benefits and the like. However landing in the wrong team with the wrong management will provide stress and inconveniences. You will most likely have to do more than whats given to you and any qualms will be met with disregarding how you feel.

Lots of room to grow

Job was great! Hours were great! Work life balance was spectacular. Had colleagues that were very helpful and taught me a lot of information! Management was also great!

Good place to start if you have no other options and love living paycheck to paycheck

If there are no other places that will take you then maybe start here. It puts food on the table but living paycheck to paycheck coming out of college is horrible.With inflation rates at an all time high and rent just skyrocketing, good luck making it with this company. I have been here 2 years and I have coworkers that are a level under me coming in and making more than me as well as contractors that do the same thing as me that are not even employed by the company.Compensation at the beginning of the year is horrible unless you are among the top 3-5 people in the cluster of around 100-150. You get maybe a $1 raise for all your hard work... I started here at $27.50 right out of college and I am now making $29.04 two years later...Moving on from that, the management, oh my, the management is horrible. They do not care about you and label as just another number. If you want to advance well then you better know somebody high up in order to get promoted or be within that top 1%. They say they offer advancement opportunities and they do but good luck getting there. The people that vote this company up are just the ones that suck up to the managers or get handed everything that they want in life while the hard working people get stepped on.

Not Great

AWS is a serious meat grinder. Burn and churn. Even worse if you are a woman and/or minority. There are pockets within the organization which are amazing, but for the most part there are mid managers who are sneaky, deceptive and lying snakes.

Fast paced and lots to learn.

I want to make sure I mentioned a disclaimer before my review - much of your experience will vary from team to team and manager to manager. For me and my colleagues, AWS is extremely fast paced. The general expectation is that there will be very little handholding despite a steep learning curve. Getting used to AWS from another company or college while also learning your new job responsibilities amid rampant turnover and without adequate support is a harsh environment to endure. That being said, if you can set boundaries early, learn what the priorities are of your team, and can communicate your needs and questions clearly, you can establish yourself and overcome the overwhelming speed of projects even as a new hire. As another review mentioned, mistakes are tolerated, but not ignorance. You cannot make blind decisions for the sake of speed, but you don't always need to know everything before making a decision. Learning what to prioritize to make a sound decision quickly is a skill you will see a lot of benefit from (and one you'll exercise a lot here). Overall, my experience is that every day there's a learning curve, a new problem to solve or task that needs to be completed that I haven't done before. Not all of those new problems are exciting, but I understand my products, customers, and the moving parts in between a little bit more with each new challenge. That's a lot of words for "You learn a LOT here." Just be sure that you don't forget what you WANT to learn and what skills YOU want to sharpen. Your time is valuable and what you spend it on is the most important -

Poor documentation, lack of processes, lack of job related training, high employee turnover (lose historical knowledge and expertise), unclear role expectations and responsibilities, steep learning curve, supersonic pace, rare proactive support (minimum onboarding), many redundant tools, PIPs can block a team transfer and if you quit while PIPed you can never join any amazon team again

Poor management In general. The managers are also overloaded. The ultra feminism is just crazy and out of sense. Most of the workers are overwhelmed and a few living the great life.

AWS offers many career options. Not much clarity from management as they rotate so frequently. Positive work environment. Pay could be better but not the worst. Overall positive place to work.

The Good and the BAD of any company

Depends on your manager and team. Pick wisely. Vouch for your self, promotions come to those who speak up versus actual technical knowledge. Be good but make sure you talk about how good you are.

Had to be the work life balance. Really was working more than having the balance of home life.

A lot of AWS priorities were set aside with new management. Things that were a priority when I started with the company were changing with each management change. You just have to make sure to succeed with changing like that. It has to be a constant focus on going forward seamlessly.

Amazon is amazon. You have great work culture and supporting management. Access to every person in y the company be it in any position. All are very friendly and very supportive.

Poor work environment

No real structure I was constantly shifted between jobs and then criticised for not doing the job I was hired for. People were under pressure all the time. Not a good working atmosphere.

Great people and culture

I work for the partner organization. The people I worked with are great selection of people who are good at what they do. They promote the leadership skills in a way that you really digest it and live with those principles. There's endless opportunity to learn new stuff and talk to the best of best all the time.

In comparison to other tech companies the employee benefits are minimal. Fast paced work environment leads to burnout and turnover. Great place to work to gain industry experience. Mostly friendly colleagues, but some coworkers are difficult to communicate with.

Good growth for the company, but not one person.

-Hiring The good-Very good job for younger people. I got the job pretty much straight out of high school, and I know many others who did the same. This kind of discourages older people who join. The bad- The whole process took months. There was even three weeks of silence after my second interview before they asked me if I could come in the next week. There is a comptia test that you need to have a 75%+ score on. This would usually be fine, but it has next to no good information relating to the job. I would say a good 25 - 30% of the test can be related to the job. Training was almost non-existant. This is a good reason to why people get fired so often. The training that isn't just text and pictures come in the form of shadowing and reverse shadowing. I've been told this is changing, but I can't say for sure. And I kind of doubt it.The stance of contract workers and hiring in AWS-Amazon has never said this, but in my educated guess, I have not been proven wrong YET. Amazon likes to mainly hire under contract. There are a few reasons for this. They like to hire as many people as possible, so they can cherry pick the good from the bad. Because they hire so many people, they wouldn't want to give as many benefits. And, because it is such a tight working company, with new people constantly coming in, they need to be able to fire people just as fast. This is all possible with contracts!Contract vs non contract workers-There are many differences between contract workers and people who actually work under Amazon. First off, Contract workers have a time sheet, -
