Most of them unfortunately were chased off by horrible management.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?The management, so I’m guessing that has to come from corporate because I’ve never worked at a place where so many managers were unequipped to do their job and treated people like they were less than humanWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company?You were their slaves it didn’t matter you did what they said. You worked as many hours as they wanted. They didn’t care if you made no money you needed to be there and do whatever they said and sell things that people didn’t need they didn’t care.What is a typical day like for you at the company?They would start today by saying treat people like they were your family and then as an example they would say why didn’t you sell that lady tires and I’d say cause she didn’t need them and they’d say well. We have a lot of tires in stock you need to sell tires anyway and then we go and try to sell her tires. Things like that every day.

Great place to learn the industry, has became more secretive since 2022

Depending on your mindset, you'll either have great days that go by quickly, or you'll dread every single second of dialing phones. It's really up to you how you do in the automotive industry and AutoNation gives you the tools required to succeed on day one. There will always be people problems. This company used to be proud of promotion from within and keeping it in the AutoNation Family. Now, they couldn't care any less and they'll cut your throat out in the process. Do not be in the wrong place at the wrong time with these people, keep your eyes open and do not let them take advantage of you, they absolutely will. Since the ex-Stillantis CEO took over AutoNation and has tried to turn it into the Amazon of car buying. The sales position will be faded out within the next 10 years at AutoNation. Pay plans changed 3 times in an 8 month span, commission reports are now blocked by the CRM, not allowing you to see what you made on a deal. If you need secure income that is above minimum wage, look else where. There are 6 other dealerships on the same street as the AutoNation you're applying to. Run as far away as possible.

Management sucks here

It was ok once i started but as i got used to it, management went downhill causing salespeople and finance managers to leave. When you take a PTO they complain, if you cant work a certain day they complain and don't get me started on Sundays.

Ok with the right coworkers

The job was fun and simple. Some sales people really made the experience better than it would have been otherwise. You do feel like a cog in a wheel but if you're lucky some of the coworkers make up for it. Raises are nonexistent even if you go above and beyond. Overall a decent place to work but could use some work on making you feel like an important part of the team.

Not What It Appears To Be

They sell you a lie to get you to work here, then they treat you like a child. They will laugh at you and degrade you for fun. I understand this is how dealerships have been for years. But that doesn't mean it should be this way. They will make you split whatever sale they say. And give away any of your sales they feel like. They will not explain, just raise their voices and blame you. This is not an environment I'd ever have someone I care about purchase from. Or work here.

Ashamed of the Company I work for

Working for AutoNation is like someone took all the negative aspects of the car business, removed the good pay, and left you with a job that I’m convinced only mentally ill people will work at. The combination of the mandatory long hours, daily meetings/beatings, and pitiful pay make me feel like I’m working for a fast food restaurant. Even as a top seller I haven’t made this little since College. Each car is worth 200$ including Used. That means to make just 2K you need to sell 10 cars. No hourly pay combined with 11 hour days feels like an awesome use of your time. Especially during the slow seasons. Work here if you’re a masochist and hate money.

Working at the corporate office was fun and challenging. One's experience there will clearly depend on the team you're working with and the leader's skills and abilities. There was significant, ongoing turnover in the executive ranks during 2016-2020, perhaps it is more stable now with another new CEO.
